Softball Drops Pair On Road Against Panthers

Farmingdale, NY - The CMSV softball team was looking to get into the win column against Skyline Conference competition on Friday evening when they hit the road to Long Island to take on the College at Old Westbury. The scores were tight, but the Dolphins fell both times against the Panthers, losing game one by the score of 6-5 and game two 7-2.

Game one saw the Dolphins get off on the right foot in immediate fashion. Seniors Abigail Laurendeau and Arianna Rentas both reached home after working the basepaths, while Aimee Vega singled home her sister Jocelyn Vega to give CMSV an early 3-0 advantage. Even when the Panthers tied things up in the second inning, CMSV answered right back when Jocelyn Vega scored on a passed ball. But that's all the offense the Dolphins would see, as Old Westbury would score in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to secure the win. Laurendeau, Aimee Vega and Kaitlin Cirillo paced the Dolphins with two hits apiece while Jocelyn Vega and Katie Hutter walked twice.

The second contest began similar to the first. The Dolphins jumped out to an early one run lead when Luarendeau scored on an error, en route to another two hit performance. CMSV would fail to get back on the scoreboard until the sixth inning, when Liana Cabeza drove home Aimee Vega on a fielder's choice. Jocelyn Vega and Renee Hoerning would add a pair of hits to the stat sheet as well.

The Dolphins will look to win their first conference game on Sunday when they take on Sarah Lawrence College.
