Throgs Neck, NY - It was back to conference play for CMSV's baseball team, as the Dolphins took on SUNY Maritime in a double header on Friday after the games were rescheduled Thursday due to weather. Both games were tightly contested, and it was reflected in the box scores, as the Skyline rivals split the series down the middle. The Privateers took game one by the score of 5-2, with the Dolphins emerging victorious by two runs in the second contest.
Dolphins ace
Andrew Geiger was on the bump in the first game - and despite picking up the loss, he continued his impressive 2022 campaign. The junior from Naples, Florida went the distance for his team, allowing just three earned runs and six hits while striking out six in seven innings. The Dolphins scattered six hits against Maritime, and even took the lead in fourth inning after junior
Jake Pierre picked up a bases loaded walk. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, it wasn't enough to ensure the win.
Senior
Eric Zimmermann plated the first run for CMSV in the fourth inning with a bases loaded infield single. Zimmermann and
Matt DiNorcia paced the team with two hits apiece.
For DiNorcia, the two hits secured his spot as the all-time hits leader in program history. It was yet another accolade for the team captain, as DiNorcia has emerged as a star both on the field and in the classroom.
The second game went in CMSV's favor. Starting pitcher
Sean Kennedy didn't allow a run to cross the plate until the sixth inning, with only three total scoring for Maritime. The sophomore picked up where he left off in his last start against Saint Elizabeth University, as he once again threw a complete game for his team. Kennedy finished with six strikeouts in nine innings.
Zimmermann once again got things going for the Dolphins in the fourth inning when his RBI single to right field plated
Isidoros Bartziokas for the first run of the game. From there, Bartziokas and senior shortstop
Tyler Paulino combined for four RBI, leading to the win. Paulino and freshman
Dom Porto collected two hits apiece.
The Dolphins now turn their attention to Penn State Harrisburg, who they take on this coming Tuesday.
