Harrisburg, PA - The baseball program took another break from conference play and traveled to Pennsylvania on Tuesday afternoon to take on Penn State Harrisburg in a makeup game from Spring Break. Head coach
John Muller threw a bevy of pitchers against the Lions but ultimately fell by the score of 7-5.
The Dolphins are now 17-13 through 30 games this season. They'll return to Skyline play this coming weekend with the hopes of climbing up the conference standings.
Things got going early for CMSV when senior
Isidoros Bartziokas cleared the bases with a double to give his team an early 3-0 advantage. The Lions responded over the next two innings, plating five runs before the Dolphins could get back on the scoreboard. They did just that in the top half of the fifth inning when senior
Eric Zimmermann scored
Jake Blinstrub on an infield single. Zimmermann would collect another RBI in the ninth, but the team couldn't get enough offense going to tie things up before the end of the contest.
Despite the loss, it was a special day for standout talent
Jake Blinstrub. His three hits against Penn State Harrisburg gave him 55 on the season, good for the most in a single season in program history. The graduate student adds another accolade to the list, which includes taking home the Skyline Conference Player of the Year award a season ago.
Seven Dolphins pitchers got work in for their team on Tuesday, incuding
Andrew Geiger,
Ivan Navarro,
Aidan Rice,
Humberto Vela,
Max Benbenisti,
Chris Mantione and
Peter Sanderson. Benbenisti was especially impressive, as the sophomore collected two strikeouts in his lone inning of work.
CMSV will continue their stretch against non-conference opponents, with NYU up next on the docket for the Dolphins. The single game will take place this coming Friday.
