Patchogue, NY- The CMSV baseball team headed to Purchase College to face off against the Panthers in a conference doubleheader. The Dolphins extended their win streak to six as they defeated the Panthers 1-0, but dropped the second matchup of the day, 6-1. The Dolphins competed in two close games as they split with the Panthers.
The first game came down to the wire as the lone run of the game came in the seventh inning for the Dolphins on a wild play. Senior Tyler Paulino stepped up to the plate looking to bring home a run, and with a bunt single and a missed throw by the Panthers, he advanced to second base. On the other side of the basepath, a Dolphin runner was thrown out at third base, which allowed for sophomore Sean Kennedy to cross the plate and ultimately win the game.
The Dolphin defense was on their game as they only allowed five hits. Junior Andrew Geiger pitched all seven innings for the Dolphins as he struck out four Panthers and only walked one.
The Dolphins were in another close game for the second matchup as the lead remained within one for either team until the Panther offense exploded for four runs in the eighth inning. Although the Dolphins outhit Purchase, the Panthers found a way to defeat the CMSV.
CMSV had some bright spots despite the loss, including senior Jake Blinstrub and junior Jake Pierre who both got on base three of their four at bats.
The Dolphins have a quick turnaround as they are back in action for the third consecutive day as they take on the Rams of Farmingdale State Sunday afternoon.
