North Adams, MA - The men's lacrosse team took the field for their fifth game of the 2022 season and were looking for the first win to gain momentum as Skyline play nears. The Dolphins did just that, defeating the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts by the score of 11-7. This game goes down as the first win of
James Fitzgerald's coaching career.
CMSV is now 1-4 in the early goings of the season.
The Trailblazers got things going early, scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes of the contest. But it wasn't long before CMSV responded, as senior
Patrick Nagy found sophomore
Jacob Cochran for the team's first goal of the contest. After MCLA scored one more to make it a 3-1 game early in the second, the Dolphins rattled off five straight goals and never looked back. Nagy was on the receiving end of an assist from
Giovanni Jean-Pharuns, which was followed up by consecutive goals from sophomore attackman
Joseph Santana.
Ryan Jean-Pharuns scored a goal of his own off a pass from his brother, with Gio completing the scoring fury for the Dolphins to make it 6-3.
MCLA tried their best to cut into the Dolphins' lead, but Fitzgerald's squad held tight on both ends of the field to ensure their first victory of the year.
Nagy paced the team with three goals while adding two assists, good for five points. The Jean-Pharuns brothers impressed as they combined for three goals and four assists of their own. Cochran and Senior
Matthew Pincus (one goal, two assists) also aided in the team's overall offensive efforts. The freshmen duo of
Aaron Smith and
Jake Luxoro impressed, as Smith scooped eight ground balls and won 11 faceoffs while Luxoro had four caused turnovers and four ground balls of his own.
Sawyer Davis made 19 saves in his first win.
The Dolphins will get one more tuneup before conference play in the form of Anna Maria College. CMSV will host the visitors at Maritime College this coming Wednesday.
