Patchogue, NY- The CMSV men's baseball team hosted the City Colleges of New York, and proved they were the better team in the outing as they defeated the Beavers, 27-8, Friday night.
The Dolphins took to the field looking to win their fourth consecutive matchup on the season, and the team did not disappoint. Senior Matt DiNorcia, who led the Dolphins in RBIs on the day, brought in classmate Jake Blinstrub to score the first run of the game.
Following two runs in the first inning from the Beavers, CMSV responded with four runs of their own. Blinstrub's single to right field in the second inning brought home two runs for the Dolphins. Junior Jake Pierre followed up with a double to score two more runs.
The Dolphins were clicking on all ends as they scored 12 unanswered runs in the next three innings including eight in the third. Senior Eric Zimmermann started the run off with a homer to right center field. After a walk brought home another run, Pierre singled to right field to score two more for the Dolphins. Sophomore Joey DiNorcia brought home two more runs for CMSV with another single.
The Dolphins weren't done putting runs on the board as Blinstrub brought two more home with a single up the middle in the top of the sixth inning.
The Dolphins allowed just three more runs the rest of the game as they finished the game with 10 consecutive runs, six being in the final inning. Zimmermann put another homer over the fence in the seventh, and M. DiNorcia went deep to right field, scoring three more runs in the eighth.
Senior Michael Grisanti started the Dolphins' huge inning with a double to bring home two runs. Zimmermann followed up with a double of his own to bring home Grisanti. Junior Dylan Kelly added another double for the Dolphins to bring home two more runs in the ninth inning. Sean Kennedy brought home the final run with a single to left.
The Dolphin pitching rotation handled business as each pitcher allowed less than five hits. Juniors Douglas Johnson, Allan Santana, and Justin Dutzer led the Dolphin pitching along with senior Peter Sanderson, sophomore Gio Zuena and freshman Aidan Cardenas, only allowing 11 hits while striking out 12 Beaver hitters.
The Dolphins look to continue their winning ways as they head to Purchase College Saturday afternoon to take on the Panthers in a conference doubleheader.
