Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Dolphins' Late Comeback Falls Short in Connecticut

New London, CT- The CMSV men's lacrosse team traveled to New London, CT for a non-conference matchup against the Mariners of Mitchell College. The Dolphins fought hard for 60 minutes, but fell to the Mariners 13-11.

Junior Giovanni Jean-Pharuns displayed great field vision as he assisted on two goals in the first quarter by classmate Joseph Santana and senior Patrick Nagy. Great defense from CMSV only gave up one goal in the first quarter to give the Dolphins a 2-1 lead going into the second period.

The Dolphins responded quickly after an early goal by Mitchell as Nagy returned the favor to Jean-Pharuns as the Dolphins took the lead back. The Mariners would score two more goals in the quarter, but Jean-Pharuns added another goal to tie the game going into the locker room.

The Dolphins were met with force coming out of halftime as they allowed four straight goals within the first four minutes of the second half. The Dolphins responded with a pair of goals by Nagy and Sophomore Jacob Cochran. A late goal from the Mariners gave Mitchell a 9-6 lead over the Dolphins.

Jean-Pharuns tried to cut into the lead with a quick goal, but a 3-0 run by the Mariners would push the score to 12-7 in favor of Mitchell.

The Dolphins fought hard the last seven minutes of the game as they poured in four goals to bring the game to 12-11, but a final goal at the 2:13 mark and possession would seal the deal.

Jean Pharuns led the Dolphins with team highs in goals (4) and assists (3). Santana and Nagy added three goals apiece. Cochran added a goal and six ground balls, while senior Anthony Manna led the team in groundalls with eight.

The Dolphins will look to bounce back quickly as they head to Massachusetts to take on Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, Friday afternoon.
