Flemington, NJ - The CMSV baseball wrapped up their home stretch at Diamond Nation on Wednesday, taking on John Jay for the second time this season. The Dolphins replicated their success from the first matchup, defeating the Bloodhounds 16-3.
The win put the Dolphins back over .500 on the year. The team is now 6-5 with conference play coming up in the coming weeks.
CMSV put the game out of reach in the bottom half of the first inning. The Dolphins batted around to open the contest, which was highlighted by a three-run home run by senior
Eric Zimmermann and a grand slam by
Jake Blinstrub, resulting in an eight-run inning. The Dolphins got back on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a
Tyler Paulino RBI double and
Jake Pierre triple.
A two-run double from Blinstrib, an RBI single from
Matt DiNorcia and a sacrifice fly from
Michael Grisanti put the officially put the game out of reach for the Bloodhounds.
As a whole, the Dolphins 17 hits, with six of
John Muller's nine starters recording two of more hits. Blinstrub's six RBI led the team while DiNorcia and freshman
Dom Porto led the team with three hits apiece.
Sean Kennedy took the mound for the Dolphins and had an impressive performance. The sophomore standout allowed just three hits in five innings while striking out two John Jay hitters.
Allan Santana pitched in two innings of relief and allowed just one earned run while freshman
Aidan Cardenas and senior
Peter Sanderson shut the door in the eighth and ninth, with the two combining for four strikeouts.
The Dolphins will look to carry their momentum into the weekend when they travel back to New Jersey to take on Centenary University.
