Hartford, CT - Non-conference played continued on Tuesday evening for the Dolphins, with the team traveling to Connecticut to take on Trinity College in a single matchup. CMSV went toe-to-toe with the Bantams throughout the majority of the game, but an eighth inning grand slam but things out of reach for the Dolphins, resulting in a 11-5 loss.
The Dolphins now sit at .500 in the early portion of the season with a 5-5 record.
Things started off well for CMSV, as senior leader
Michael Grisanti put his team on the board first with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Trinity, however, would respond with five runs over the first two innings to make it a 5-1 ballgame. The Dolphins would battle back, starting in the third inning when Grisanti had yet another productive at-bat with a sac fly to cut the deficit to three. Just one inning later, senior
Jake Blinstrub added to the box score, as his two-run single made it a one-run ball game. Grisanti once again found himself in the thick of things on offense, as his first home run of the season would make it a 5-5 contest in the top of the fifth.
Unfortunately, however, it would be all Bantams from there. Trinity would go on to take their lead back in the sixth inning, but the game became out of reach when the home team posted a grand slam, shutting the door on the Dolphins.
Humberto Vela,
Andrew Geiger and
Aidan Rice would combine for the first seven innings of the game, collectively allowing eight runs with four strikeouts. Sophomore
Gio Zuena received action in his fifth game a allowed three runs on two hits and a walk. On top of Grisanti and Blinstrub,
Jake Pierre,
Eric Zimmermann,
Sean Kennedy,
Jason Albert and
Tyler Paulino all generated hits for the Dolphins on Tuesday evening.
The Dolphins will set their sights on John Jay College, who they'll take on for the second time this season on Wednesday evening.
