Riverdale, NY - The women's basketball continued their impressive stretch since the start of the new year on Saturday when they handedly defeated St. Joe's Long Island on the Peter Jay Sharp Center floor by the score of 70-43. This marks the Dolphins' eighth win in their last nine contests, all against Skyline Conference competition. CMSV now ranks third in the conference with an 11-4 record while being 13-4 overall thus far.
It was a dominant performance on both ends of the floor for the Dolphins, with head coach
Phil Stern stating it was "the best game we've collectively played all year." CMSV shot over 45% from the floor in three of the four quarters played while knocking down four of their six three point attempts. On the other end of the floor, the Dolphins caused 20 turnovers while allowing the Golden Eagles to convert just 24% of their field goal attempts.
It was a family affair for the Dolphins on Saturday afternoon, as sisters Kayla and
Victoria Hanley impressed.
Kayla Hanley was as efficient as they come on the offensive end, hitting eight of her nine scoring opportunities, en route to a team-high 19 points.
Victoria Hanley continued her dominant stretch of performing well both offensively and on the boards, as she collected 13 points and 19 rebounds.
Standout
Amber Been made her full time return to the lineup after missing action with an ankle injury and picked up where she left off, as she contributed 14 points, seven boards, six assists and four steals.
Kira Villegas added 11 points, seven rebounds and a team-high five steals of her own while
Dez Brown had six points to go along with three boards and a block.
The Dolphins will now turn their attention to Old Westbury, who they lost to earlier this season. They'll hit the road this coming Wednesday for the big matchup.
