Hoboken, NY - The Dolphins' baseball program returned to the field for the first time this year, opening their season against Stevens Tech in a non-conference double header. CMSV dropped both games to the Ducks by the scores of 6-0 and 3-1, as the team works their rust off in the early going.
The first contest featured junior ace
Aidan Rice as the team's starting pitcher, fresh off his All-Conference nomination from a year ago. The Columbus, Ohio native pitched in just 1.1 innings while allowing four walks, three hits and five earned runs. The Dolphins offense recorded just three total hits, with sophomore
Sean Kennedy going 2-for-3 with a double. Senior
Humberto Vela impressed out of the bullpen, pitching the rest of the way for CMSV while generating three strikeouts.
The Dolphins had a better performance in the second contest of the afternoon. Reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Year
Jake Blinstrub looked the part, going 3-for-3 with one walk while scoring the only run of the game for his team. But it was the pitching that stood out, as junior
Andrew Geiger allowed just one run on five hits in 5.1 innings while striking out six.
After getting a taste of action, the Dolphins will be off for the next 13 days before taking the field again. CMSV will take on the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a double header on February 27.
