Dolphins Head To Holiday Break With Dominant Win Over Five Towns

Riverdale, NY – After a tough string of Skyline Conference games, the Dolphins got back into the win column on Tuesday night when they took on Five Towns College in Riverdale. The win was a confidence booster for a team in need for a win, and it was a balanced attack for Maria Nardulli's squad, as three different Dolphins scored in double figures in the victory.

It took a bit to get the Dolphins going, but once they did, it was all CMSV in the first quarter of action. After the first point for the Dolphins went on the board courtesy of a Julia Angeles free throw at the 8:17 mark, the home team went on a run.

Thanks to baskets from Shania Wolfe White, Kyla McLean, Kira Villegas and Melanieann Broderick, the Dolphins went on a 12-2 run, good enough to start the second quarter up by seven.

The Dolphins flexed both offensively and defensively going throughout the second quarter. As a team, CMSV caused 10 Five Towns turnovers while forcing the Sound to make just a quarter of their shot attempts.

On the other end, the Dolphins went seven of 17 from the floor while making each of their free throw attempts, resulting in a 29-15 lead at halftime.
The Dolphins came out of the locker room and looked exactly how they did in the first half. CMSV shot over 50% from the floor in both the third and fourth quarters while seeing their lead balloon to an impressive 25 points with seven minutes left in the contest. The Sound, meanwhile, made just nine of their 27 second half shooting attempts while turning it over 17 times.

Villegas and Amber Been, who only played in 26 minutes, both led the team with 15 points apiece. Villegas grabbed nine rebounds to go along with six steals and five assists while Been registered seven boards, four assists and three steals of her own.

Wolfe White, the sophomore guard out of Edison, New Jersey, scored a career-high 14 points on five of 10 shooting. Bigs Broderick and Julia Angeles combined for 17 points and nine rebounds while the freshman trio of Kyla McLean, Isabelle Bagon and Lexi Tucker came off the bench and provided valuable minutes for the Dolphins.

Winners of four games in nine tries, the Dolphins will get a holiday break before returning to action against Wesleyan University at home on New Year's Eve.
