Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Second Half Goals Gives Dolphins Third Striaght Skyline Win

Newburgh, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's soccer team had the task of carrying positive momentum into their third straight game, with even more obstacles to overcome - not only did their "home" matchup get moved to Mount Saint Mary's campus, but the Dolphins and Knights went at with cold and rainy weather conditions. CMSV was able to do what they set out to accomplish, and that was continue their winning streak, as the Dolphins topped the Knights 2-1 on Tuesday evening.

With three straight conference wins behind them, the Dolphins are now 4-1 against the Skyline. Situated in the fourth spot, CMSV would host a playoff game if the postseason began tomorrow.

The Dolphins and Knights traded possessions early on, but it was the Knights who got on the board first, scoring at the 18 minute mark to make it a one goal game. Mount Saint Mary would continue to pepper shots towards the net, with the "road" team outshooting the Dolphins seven to one, but a strong first half from freshman goalkeeper Javiera Sanchez kept the game 1-0 going into halftime.

CMSV fired out of the gates, with Alicia Rodriguez tying up the contest just three minutes into the second half. The standout sophomore received a chip pass from classmate Amanda Controneo, with Rodriguez sprinting towards the goal to put it past the Knights goalie. The game remained tied at one until the 68th minute, with freshman Victoria Gamarra putting the Dolphins up for good. The first year starter from Oceanside, New York - who came into Tuesday night with at least one point in each of the last three games and in four of the last five - converted a shot attempt off a strong pass from Rodriguez to give her team the lead for good.

Sanchez impressed in net with five total saves throughout the contest, while senior Emily McCarthy led the way with four total shots and two on goal.

The Dolphins will look to keep up their winning ways over the weekend when they travel to Long Island to take on Old Westbury on Saturday.
