Dolphins Drop Straight Sets To Gryphons At Home

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's volleyball team took the Sharp Center court for the fifth time in six games on Monday, with the team looking to keep their playoff hopes alive against Sarah Lawrence College. The Dolphins battled but ultimately fell to the Gryphons, losing in straight sets by the scores of 25-18, 25-18, 26-24. CMSV is now 2-6 in conference play this season with three remaining.

Throughout the first two sets, the Dolphins only led by as much as one point, with both sides trading leads early in the sets before Sarah Lawrence came away with wins. CMSV had their best set in the final one, with their lead ballooning to four points on three different occasions, but a late comeback by the Gryphons was enough to give them the win.

Junior hitter Elizabeth Flores was the Dolphins' points leader on Monday evening, as she paced the team with 11 kills while also tying a team-high with 25 digs, a number that classmate Isabella Garcia also held for the team. Sophomore Lydia Aryee got things done on both ends of the floor with 25 assists and two blocks while junior Melanieann Broderick had eight kills and five digs in two sets. Two-sport athlete Kira Villegas played in her second game with the team and had a strong showing, filling the stat sheet with five kills and five digs of her own.

The next opponent for the Dolphins is St. Joe's Brooklyn, who they'll take on in a road matchup on Wednesday.
