Patchogue, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's soccer team was out on Long Island for the second straight contest, this time taking on St. Joseph's University Long Island after dropping a close game to Farmingdale State a week ago. The road trip was a successful one for
Tommy Mattera's squad, with the Dolphins departing back to Riverdale with a 2-0 victory in the rearview mirror.
With the win, CMSV improved to 4-2-2 against the conference, good for third in the standings.
The physical matchup saw the Dolphins score goals in each of the two halves of play. Just 15 minutes into the contest,
Ian Lamas continued his impressive stretch of games where he picked up a mishandled ball from the goalkeeper and put it in the back of the net, good for his sixth goal of the season.
The Dolphins struck early in the second half as well. This time, however, it was standout freshman
Augustus McGiff who scored from the left side of the box to make it a two goal game. The defense, once again led by
Dennis Andino,
Tyrone Malango and Mark Jourdain, did a tremendous job limiting shot opportunities, with the Golden Eagles only taking six shots the entire afternoon. The one shot that reached by junior goalkeeper
Joel Luna was saved.
The Dolphins will now set their sights on Sarah Lawrence College, and they'll take on the Gryphons this coming Wednesday in Riverdale.
