Purchase, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's soccer team was looking to pick up where they left off as they took on Manhattanville College on Saturday morning on the heels of a seven goal victory over Purchase College earlier this week. The Dolphins kept the momentum in their favor, as they had an impressive performance against the Valiants, resulting in a 3-2 victory.
The win puts the Dolphins at 3-1 against the Skyline thus far and also is the first win against Manhattanville in program history.
The Dolphins played an aggressive brand of soccer all morning, as they consistently kept possession of the ball while forcing shots against the Valiants defense. It wa only 12 minutes into the game when CMSV got on the board. Top goalscorer and reigning first team All-Skyline player
Emily McCarthy took a strong pass off the foot of freshman
Victoria Gamarra, booted a shot from outside the box and put it over the top of a jumping Manhattanville goalkeeper to make it a 1-0 game. The Valiants knotted things up at one just six minutes later, but CMSV would get right back on the board before halftime.
At the 40 minute mark, it was
Alicia Rodriguez's turn to get on the board. It all started when
Naomi Juvera caused a turnover in the Valiants' zone, and she quickly flipped it to Gamarra, who then passed to Rodriguez for her fourth goal of the year.
Rodriguez added another goal to the stat sheet just minutes into the second half. Freshman
Kailey Conner dribbled the ball on the wing and found the streaking Rodriguez, who deked past the goaltender to score an easy shot for her team. The Valiants would add a penalty shot goal late in the game, but the Dolphins defense led by RIley Leedholm,
Dana DeDominicis and
Mazy Wright proved to be too much for Manhattanville.
With three Skyline wins in four tries, the Dolphins will look to keep their momentum rolling when they travel to Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday.
