Riverdale, NY - The women's basketball team returned to action on Wednesday evening, looking to keep their winning streak alive against Manhattanville College. The Dolphins did just that, as they held off the Valiants for their sixth straight win to start the new year. The 61-57 victory brought CMSV's conference record to 9-3, inching them closer to the top of the Skyline.
The game was tightly contested over the course of four quarters. The Dolphins led the way in the first three periods by the scores of 15-13, 20-14 and 11-9, but the fourth quarter saw the Valiants continue to fight back, resulting in a 21 point quarter from the road team. But it was clutch free throws from sophomore transfer
Kayla Hanley that helped continue her team's winning streak.
Hanley had another strong performance with her new squad, pacing the team in points with 15, including going five of six from the charity stripe. Both
Victoria Hanley and
Amber Been continued their strong individual seasons, as they put up 14 points apiece, with Hanley recording four boards, three assists and three steals while Been had six, four and two of her own. Sophomore
Melanieann Broderick led the way with 10 rebounds, while
Kira Villegas was the team leader in steals with four.
Phil Stern and the Dolphins will look to continue to ride their hot streak this coming weekend when they take on USMMA.
