Riverdale, NY - The women's basketball team saw their winning ways continue on Saturday afternoon, but this time in major fashion. The Dolphins faced off against Mount Saint Mary College and handed the Knights their first conference loss of the season in a 64-41 route on the Sharp Center floor. The win made it five straight for
Phil Stern's program, making the team 10-3 and 8-3 overall and against the Skyline, respectively.
The Dolphins proved early they were the better team on the court, leading from the opening tip until the final whistle. The top first half performance was a collective on in the second quarter, as CMSV shot an impressive 50% from the floor, with
Amber Been,
Victoria Hanley,
Kira Villegas and
Kayla Hanley all recording baskets in the 10 minutes before halftime.
The third quarter was even more impressive, with the Dolphins registering a 63% field goal percentage while forcing the Knights to shoot just 18% from the floor. As a whole, the stingy Dolphins defense allowed the Knights to make just 27% of their buckets while forcing 14 total turnovers.
Been had arguably her best performance as a member of the Dolphins against the top-seeded Knights. The Bronx, New York native scored 17 points on six of nine shooting while adding 14 rebounds, nine assists and four steals and was a driving force on both ends of the floor for CMSV.
Victoria Hanley wasn't fat behind with a 16 point, 10 rebound performance, good for her fourth double double in five games. Villegas finished with 12 points and six boards of her own while forwards
Dez Brown and
Melanieann Broderick combined for 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Dolphins will look to continue their winning ways this coming Wednesday. They'll have another home matchup, this time against Manhattanville College, this coming Wednesday.
