Riverdale, NY - The men's basketball program competed in their first game on their home floor in 2022, playing host to Maritime College in a Skyline Conference affair. It was a tightly contested battle over the course of 40 minutes, but the Dolphins were able to hold off the Mariners, winning by the score of 71-69. The victory improves CMSV's overall record to 5-7 and they're now 3-2 against the Skyline.
The first half saw both the Dolphins and Mariners trade baskets for the majority of 20 minutes, with the largest lead being on six points. Both
Dan Porcic and
Aaron Darab had strong first half performances, combining for 19 of the team's 36 points.
The theme of close play continued after halftime, with 18 lead changes taking place. The contest came down to the wire, but senior
Jeremiah Simmons was able to secure the victory with a textbook midrange jumper over the Mariners' defender to make it a 70-69 game with less than 10 seconds to play. On the other end of the court, sophomore
Elijah McKenzie made a clutch block to help ensure the victory.
Porcic ended the afternoon with 22 points and eight boards, both team highs.
Kelvin Turner-Harris once again impressed from beyond the arc, going three of five. Darab paced the team with five assists while Simmons and McKenzie combined for 14 points.
Next up for the Dolphins is Mount Saint Mary College, who they'll take on in Newburgh this coming Tuesday.
