Patchogue, NY - After nearly one month of no live action, the men's basketball program returned to the court on Wednesday evening, traveling to Patchogue to take on St. Joe's Long Island in Skyline play. The long layoff doomed the Dolphins, with CMSV losing 82-68.
The Dolphins last played on December 13 against Connecticut College, as the following three games were cancelled or postponed due to health and safety protocols.
The James Mooney-led Dolphins saw strong offensive performances from two standouts, as junior Dan Porcic (16 points, seven of eight from the floor) and senior Kalos Evans (10 points, three steals) combined for all but two of CMSV's first half points. Despite keeping things close, the Dolphins trailed by eight going into halftime.
The second half saw the Golden Eagles pull away, with their lead ballooning to as much as 16 points over the final 20 minutes of play. Senior Kelvin Turner-Harris did his best to help his team climb back into the game, scoring 12 points in the half alone. But the deficit proved to be too much for CMSV, resulting in the loss.
Porcic finished with 27 points, good for a game-high. Aaron Darab had a strong overall performance, as he recorded nine points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals, while Jeremiah Simmons added eight points of his own.
The Dolphins will be staying on campus next time out. CMSV will play host to Maritime College (3-8, 0-5 Skyline) in Riverdale this coming Saturday.
