Purchase, NY - After an impressive victory over Mount Saint Mary at home this past Saturday, the Dolphins were back on the pitch on Tuesday evening, this time facing off against Manhattanville College in more Skyline Conference action. Both sides battled with the score resulting in one goal apiece. While the outcome wasn't what head coach
Tommy Mattera was looking for, CMSV has yet to lose a game in 2021, as they're now 5-0-2 this season.
Like the contest against the Knights, the Dolphins got on the board early and started things off with a bang. At the 47-second mark, two newcomers combined for an impressive goal when
Ian Lamas made an impressive pass across the field to an emerging
Tyrone Malango. While Malango's initial shot off the head didn't go in, the junior located the ball immediately and put it passed the Valiants keeper to make it a 1-0 game. It was the first goal in Malango's CMSV career, while Lamas collected his first assist as well.
While that was the Dolphins would put on the scoreboard, the team's defense was once again impressive. Led by
Luciano Cirelli,
Dennis Andino and
Fernando Guzman, the defense had another physical yet cerebral performance. Sophomor goaltender
Joel Luna looked great in net once more, making five saves in six shots faced. The California native now has a save percentage over .800 on the year.
Skyline Conference play rolls on as CMSV welcomes the United States Merchant Marine Academy to campus on October 2. If you can't make it to Marillac Field, stay tuned to CMSVAthletics.com for the action.
