Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins (5-1-2 (3-1-1)) lost their first game of the season to the visitors United States Merchant Marine Academy (7-5 (4-1)), with a scoreline of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. It was a beautiful day for a soccer match as 100 fans came out to support CMSV.
The Dolphins, unlike any other game this season, couldn't find their groove offensively. There were a couple of chances at both ends but only USMMA was able to put the finishing
touch on one. The Dolphins defense held solid against USMMA's route one game style, with keeper
Joel Luna having another spectacular performance. The sophomore made six saves in the match, with the pick of the bunch coming in the second half when Luna tipped a magnificent shot just over the crossbar. The Dolphins picked up their intensity in the second half chasing an equalizer.
With less than 10 minutes on the clock, the Dolphins put away one of their chances and were mid celebration when the assistant referee called the goal off and gave the Dolphins a corner
instead. USMMA fought to hold onto their lead, as the offense led by
Ian Lamas worked extremely hard within the last couple of minutes.
The Dolphins will be back in action Wednesday as Old Westbury travels to Riverdale in a Skyline match up. The College of Mount Saint Vincent will look to bounce back from a tough game and to find their form from the beginning of the season.
