CMSV Topples Defending Conference Champs Maritime, Improves to 4-0-1

Throgs Neck, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins visited Throgs Neck to take on the Maritime Privateers in their second conference game of the season. The game was played in front of 234 spectators at Reinhart field as the Dolphins secured a 3-2 win over the 2019 Skyline Conference champions.

Both teams had chances during the first half of the match, but nothing was hitting the back of the net. That was until Ian Lamas stepped up for a free kick. The junior midfielder scored the only goal of the half with a moment of brilliance when he placed a free kick into the top corner from 25 yards out, good for his third goal on the year.

The second half was opened by the Dolphins, as Carlos Romero made it a 2-0 game in the 50th minute. The reigning Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week dribbled up the left side and slotted it beyond the Maritime shot stopper. The first caution came in the 52nd minute by Maritime and again in the 55th when Matthew Babcock picked up a yellow card. The Privateers pulled back a goal in the 83rd minute, but the Dolphins responded with a goal of their own just two minutes later as Luke St. Denis assisted Santiago Ferrer, with the junior dinking the ball over the keeper's head to restore the Dolphins' two goal lead. The Privateers answered shortly after in the 86th minute, but their effort would fall short as the referee blew the whistle and confirmed a Dolphins win.

Joel Luna was stellar in net for the Dolphins, making six saves throughout the game. Lamas, along with his goal, recorded eight shots with four on target as the Dolphins continued their unbeaten run. The Mount now has recorded a 2-0 record in the conference and 4-0-1 overall. The Dolphins will return to action September 25 as hosts to Mount Saint Mary. This will be the first soccer game played on Marillac field since 2019.
