Women's Soccer Secures First Win Of Season Over Neumann

Aston, PA - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's soccer team returned to the road on Saturday afternoon, this time in Pennsylvania for a non-conference matchup against Neumann University. The Dolphins secured their first victory of 2021 over the Knights, winning by the score of 2-1. This wasn't only CMSV's first win of the season, but also the first as a head coach for Stuart Dick, who came to our Riverdale campus in February of 2020.

It was Neumann who got on the board first when they put a shot past first-time starter Brooke Frierson in the 17th minute for an early one goal advantage. From there, it was all Dolphins in all aspects of the contest.

Junior leader Emily McCarthy scored her team-high third goal of the year in the 39th minute to tie the game up at one apiece. McCarthy stayed active on the scoring front less than two minutes later when she assisted on defender Amanda Controneo's first goal of her collegiate career, making it 2-1 CMSV. Both McCarthy and the Dolphins weren't finished in the first half, as the Middletown, New Jersey native converted yet another shot, all but putting the game out of reach.

After allowing an early goal, the freshman Frierson impressed on Saturday afternoon, turning away five of six shots on goal.

The first win for the Dolphins comes at a great time, as the team now turns their attention to Skyline Conference play. CMSV will head to Purchase College to take on the Panthers this coming Tuesday at 5 PM. Watch the contest live on CMSVAthletics.com.
