Box Score 2 Purchase, NY - The CMSV softball team traveled to Purchase to face off against the Panthers of Purchase College on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins defeated the Panthers in both matches by the scores of 8-0 and 6-0.
The Dolphins took to the field and started out hot against the Panthers. In the second inning, they put up half of their runs behind some power hitting. Sophomore
Jocelyn Vega started the Dolphins' run with a double and scored on a single by
Kaitlin Cirillo. Junior
Lakisha Camacho kept the inning alive with a single to score
Aimee Vega. Senior
Erin Patterson brought home both Cirillo and Camacho with a hit of her own.
The pitching and defense was superb for the Dolphins as
Katie Hutter struck out five Panthers while only allowing two hits as they earned their first shutouts of the season.
The Dolphins continued to put runs on the board in the fifth and sixth inning with production from Junior
Renee Hoerning who led off the fifth with a single, and later scored on a single by A. Vega.
The sixth inning was more of the same for the Dolphins as they put up three more runs to seal the deal for the first match. Junior
Abigail Laurendeau started the inning off with a single. After a walk to Patterson, the Dolphins pulled off the double steal, which worked perfectly to set up Hutter who singled to bring both runners home. Hoerning singled once more to keep the inning alive and J. Vega doubled to bring home Hutter.
The second match was all Dolphins as they piled on four runs in the first inning. After a pair of hits from Laurendeau and Patterson, and a walk to Hoerning, J. Vega doubled to clear the bases. A. Vega would then bring her home with a single.
The Dolphins added two more runs in the second inning on a double from Cirillo which brought home Patterson. After a single from J. Vega, which would advance Cirillo to third, A. Vega singled to bring home Cirillo, and would prove to be enough to defeat the Panthers.
Charlotte Kelly would get the win for the Dolphins as she pitched all seven innings and struck out two Panthers while only allowing three hits.
The Dolphins are rolling as they are looking to make a strong push to sneak into the playoff conversation. They will face off against the Panthers tomorrow for another doubleheader.
