Throgs Neck, NY - The CMSV baseball team traveled to the water today as they faced off against the Privateers of Maritime College. The Dolphins earned a split in their doubleheader Wednesday evening, losing the first match 4-2, but bouncing back in a big way to defeat Maritime 16-6 in game two.
The Dolphins gave up two runs throughout the course of five innings, while also being held scoreless, but the Dolphins made a late comeback in the sixth inning with a two run shot by Isidoros Bartziokas to tie the game at two.
After the momentum was in the Dolphins favor, the Privateers halted the run, and scored two runs of their own, which would seal the game.
The Dolphins responded quickly as they jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as junior Jake Blinstrub's double drove in Matt DiNorcia. The Privateers erased that lead and put up four runs in the first inning, but the Dolphins put up two more runs in the third inning. Blinstrub and Bartziokas both scored to bring the deficit to just 4-3, but again, Maritime had a response by putting up two runs of their own.
The Dolphins scored six runs in the fourth inning. After a single by Dan Blake and a walk to Tyler Paulino, DiNorcia doubled down the right field line to bring both runners home. Blinstrub then tripled to bring home DiNorcia. Blinstrub scored on a single from Anthony Nocero. The Dolphins rounded out the inning with a two run bomb to left field from Allan Santana.
The Dolphin pitching and defense kept the Privateer offense scoreless the rest of the game, but CMSV kept rolling as they put up four more runs in the fifth inning on a grand slam from Nocero.
CMSV scored a combined three runs in the final two innings for 13 unanswered runs to close the game out. Nocero led the Dolphin offense (2-4, six RBI).
The Dolphins are looking to make a strong push as the playoffs approach. They will face off against Manhattanville College for doubleheaders on May 1 and May 2 to close out the year before playoffs.
