Dolphins Split Road Double Header Against Valiants

Purchase, NY - The CMSV baseball team traveled to Purchase to face off against the Valiants of Manhattanville College. The Dolphins split their double header with the Valiants as they dropped the first game, 5-3, but stepped up in a big way to defeat the Valiants 18-9.

The first game was a quiet one for the offense as they only managed to earn four hits through the seven inning game. The game looked promising for the Dolphins as they scored the first run of the game, but the Valiants responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third.

The Dolphins, again, put a run on the board in the fourth inning, but the Valiants responded again with two runs. CMSV tried to make a final push in the top of the seventh, but the sole run would not be enough to make a comeback.

The Dolphins knew their playoff hopes depended on these final games, and took care of business in the second match. CMSV put up four early runs in the first inning. After two players were hit by pitches, the Dolphins capitalized with a single to left field by Jake Blinstrub which scored Matt DiNorcia. The inning was not over yet as Michael Grisanti doubled to center which scored Blinstrub and Anthony Nocero. Sophomore Engers Marte singled to right field which brought home Grisanti.

The third inning was a big one for the Dolphins as they scored eight runs to put them in front 12-0 on the Valiants. Junior Jordan Perykasz started the inning with a double to center field, and would advance to third on a wild pitch. Marte's second single of the day would bring in Perykasz and set up Joey DiNorcia for a two run blast to right field. M. DiNorcia, who was a perfect 4-4 at the plate, would continue the run as his single loaded the bases. Blinstrub was walked which brought home a run, and Perykasz cleared the bases with a double to left center. Grisanti ended the inning with a double to bring home Perykasz.

The Dolphins never looked back as they continued to pour it on the Valiants. Grisanti doubled in the fifth inning to bring home two more runs to push the lead to 14-2.

 J. DiNorcia started the sixth inning with a double to left field, and M. DiNorcia brought home his younger brother to extend the lead to 15-6.

In the eighth inning the Dolphins put up three more runs to close out any momentum from the Valiants. After a double from Dan Blake and a single from M. DiNorcia, Nocero cleared the bases with a double to left center. Blinstrub followed with a double of his own to score Nocero.

The Dolphins are looking to sneak into the playoffs, and are still hoping to clench that last playoff spot with a pair of wins, and a few losses from other conference opponents. They will return to Purchase tomorrow to face off against the Valiants for the final doubleheader of the year.
