Kings Point, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team traveled to Kings Point for the second straight day, wrapping up their season series against the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Sunday night in a single game affair. The Dolphins were looking to avenge Saturday's weep, but they came up short against the Mariners once more, dropping the contest by the score of 2-1.
The pitchers' duel was highlighted by Dolphins starter
Andrew Geiger, who arguably had his best performance in his young collegiate career. The sophomore from Naples, Florida went four innings without surrendering a hit and finished the evening with one run, three hits and four strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.
The offense, which has been a staple throughout the season for CMSV, had a tough time against USMMA's staff. The team totaled five hits, including three from
Jake Blinstrub, who moved from the leadoff spot to the three hole. The sophomore's single to left field in the third inning drove home
Matt DiNorcia for the Dolphins' lone run in the game. Seniors
Anthony Nocero and
Matt Albert also collected hits throughout the evening.
Senior
Pedro Fortoso came in relief for Geiger and pitched in three solid innings to finish the contest. An infield single at the hands of USMMA would result in their victory.
The tough weekend will have to be put in the rearview mirror immediately, as the Dolphins now turn their attention to Maritime College. CMSV will take on the Privateers this coming Wednesday for a mid-week conference double header.
