Newburgh, NY - The CMSV softball team returned to Newburgh for another conference showdown against the Mount Saint Mary's College Knights on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins struggled against the Knights once again, as they dropped both games of the doubleheader, 9-1 and 6-1.
Freshman Katie Hutter would step onto the mound for the Dolphins in the first game against MSMC.
The Dolphins got off to a slow start against the Knights as they allowed 5 runs within the first two innings. They would then tighten up a bit as they shut out the Knights in the third inning of play, but the Knights would continue to score as they would add a pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth inning.Â
CMSV would score in the fifth inning on a sacrifice out from junior Lakisha Camacho, which would bring home Aimee Vega, but with a base running error, the Knights would close out the Dolphins in the first game of the doubleheader on an out at third base.
The Dolphins hit and fielded much better in the second game as they recorded eight hits, but could not bring them home as they left runners on base nine times. Freshman Charlotte Kelly and junior Kimberly Medina would take the mound for the Dolphins in the second matchup. Medina would strike out one of the batters she faced.
The Knights jumped out to an early 6-0 run within the first three innings, but the Dolphin defense would hold them to that number the remainder of the game.
Junior Alicia Blevins would send a shot down the left field line which would score Freshman Shaniya Serrano for the Dolphins, but the Knights would seal the deal on a fly out by the Dolphins.
CMSV will look to bounce back on April 21 as they face Manhattanville College.
