Newburgh, NY - The CMSV softball team returned to the field for the first time since March 29, as they traveled to Newburgh for a conference doubleheader against the Mount Saint Mary College Knights. The Dolphins fell to the Knights in the first match 9-1 and 13-5 in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Dolphins played a tough first inning with the Knights as they scored the first run of the game on a single from Jocelyn Vega which brought home Abigail Laurendeau. The Knights matched that run in the bottom of the first to tie the game.Â
CMSV tried to hang tough the rest of the game, but the Knights' defense held the Dolphins to only two hits. Some critical errors hurt the Dolphins, as the Knights would go on to score eight combined runs in the second and third inning which would seal the deal for the first game.
The Dolphins came into the second matchup with a more aggressive mindset as they held the Knights scoreless for the first two innings. The Knights then went on to score nine runs in the third inning.Â
CMSV showed fight as they battled back to score four runs in the top of the fourth and added another in the fifth. The Knights closed out the fifth inning with four runs of their own, which would end the game.
Laurendeau impressed over the two game set as she collected four combined hits throughout the afternoon. Seven of nine batters in game two's lineup registered at least one hit in the contest.Â
The Dolphins return to the field on April 21 where they will face off against Manhattanville College.Â
