Dolphins Struggle In Second Double Header Of 2021

Patchogue, NY - The softball program return to action on Monday after opening their season against St. Joseph's College - Long Island and were looking to improve their 1-1 record. The Golden Eagles had other plans, as St. Joe's took both games: one by the score of 14-3 and the other 11-1.

After falling in a 4-0 hole over the first two innings, the Dolphins finally got on the board. Junior Lakisha Camacho, senior Abigail Laurendeau and freshman Charlotte Kelly loaded the bases for sophomore Jocelyn Vega, who was looking to get her team on the board. The starting third baseman did just that, as her single to center field brought in all three runners to cut CMSV's deficit to one.

Unfortunately for the Dolphins, those three runs would be all they would get, as the Golden Eagles would score 10 unanswered runs to finish off the contest. Vega paced the Dolphins in both hits and RBI in three at-bats. Sophomore Katie Hutter got her second start in as many days and went the distance for CMSV, striking out five along the way.

CMSV didn't fare much better in game two, as their lone run came off the bat of Camacho, who belted her first home run of the season to right field. Hutter, senior Erin Patterson and freshman Shaniya Serrano would join Camacho as the only Dolphins who would collect hits in game two. Junior Kimberly Media pitched in 5.1 innings of relief and struck out five Golden Eagles in the process.

The Dolphins, now 1-3 on the year, will set their sights on Manhattanville College, who they take on this coming Thursday for a double header. Tune into CMSVAthletics.com for the action.
