Comeback Victory Extends Dolphins' Record To 4-1 On The Year

Patchogue, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball program returned to Patchogue on Monday afternoon to take on St. Joseph's College-Long Island for their third meeting in two days. Though the Dolphins were down early, they fought their way back and took the lead late in the game. Ultimately, the Dolphins emerged victorious over the Eagles, 4-2.

The Dolphins now sit at 4-1 on the year.

CMSV went down in the first two innings, allowing two runs to score, but continued their strong offense throughout the game. Freshman Sean Kennedy started the Dolphins off with a bomb to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning, cutting the deficit to just one run.

The Dolphins continued to apply pressure on the offensive end as junior Eric Zimmermann doubled to center field, which would allow Anthony Nocero to score and tie the game at two in the sixth inning. Zimmerman was a perfect 3-for-3 on the day at the plate.

CMSV didn't stop there, as they would continue to pour on the offense. Junior Michael Grisanti doubled in the bottom of the seventh inning, which brought home Jake Blinstrub, giving the Dolphins their first lead of the afternoon.

Senior captain Isidoros Bartziokas would help add onto the score for the Dolphins, as he also doubled to right field, bringing in freshman Max Weinstein. The Dolphins led 4-2 going into the ninth inning and allowed their pitching crew to close the game.

Amir Nitowski pitched six innings and struck out four Eagles. Sean Kennedy then came in to relieve Nitowski. Kennedy did his job and didn't allow any hits in his inning pitched. Sophomore Joe Decandia allowed no runs to score and struck out three Golden Eagles in the process. Sean McHugh came to relieve Decandia and struck out the only batter he faced. Sophomore Allan Santana came in to close the game for the Dolphins and did just that, allowing no runs or hits.

The Dolphins will face off against Maritime College for a double header on Saturday March 27, starting at 12 PM, where they look to continue this road of success against the Privateers. Tune into CMSVAthletics.com to follow along live.
