Newburgh, NY - The CMSV baseball team was back in action today for a doubleheader against the Knights of Mount Saint Mary's College on Saturday. The Dolphins split today's series, dropping the first game 10-3, but fought back to defeat the Knights 6-4 in game two.
In game one against the Knights, the Dolphins started hot and took an early 3-0 lead over MSMC. But the Knights wouldn't go away as they would hold the Dolphins to just three runs for the game and would go on to score 10 runs over the next five innings, resulting in the Dolphins struggling to rally back.
The Dolphins turned it around for the second game of their doubleheader as they would again get out to an early lead over the Knights, 2-0.
Isidoros Bartziokas would start the game off for the Dolphins with a double to bring in Matt DiNorcia and Jake Blinstrub in the first inning.Â
Aidan Rice stepped onto the mound once again to start for the Dolphins, looking to continue his impressive play - and he would not disappoint. In his seven innings of pitching, he would record six strikeouts and only walk two batters.
Both defenses would hold strong as the game would remain a 2-1 game until the seventh inning. DiNorcia would break that scoring drought as he singled to right field which would bring home Blinstrub and make the game 3-1.
Anthony Nocero singled down the left field line to bring home Bartziokas, giving the Dolphins a 4-2 lead in the eighth inning. The Knights, meanwhile, would keep the game close with a run in the bottom half of the eighth.Â
The Dolphins would step to the plate for the final time in the game, and they made it worthwhile, as they scored two more runs behind two singles to right field from DiNorcia and Bartziokas.Â
Joe Decandia and Sean McHugh would come in to help seal the game for the Dolphins as they would shut down any final rally from the Knights.Â
Blinstrub and Bartziokas would finish the game with four hits in five at bats each. DiNorcia would finish with three hits and two RBIs.Â
The Dolphins are looking to continue their outstanding play as they play the Knights again on March 29.
