Riverdale, NY - The women's basketball team was looking to return to their winning ways on the Peter Jay Sharp Center floor on Thursday afternoon, as they hosted the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a Skyline Conference matchup. The game was tightly contested throughout the 40 minutes of play, but the Mariners were able to escape Riverdale with a 45-42 win. The Dolphins now sit at 5-3 on the year and are an even .500 within the conference.
Offense emerged as the key issue for the Dolphins, with the team shooting a collective 24% from the floor while missing all 14 of their three point attempts. Despite the team's struggles, CMSV stayed neck and neck with USMMA all game long, with the widest margin only being nine points. The Dolphins played a stingy defense, as they caused 19 total turnovers while generating 11 steals.
Senior
Victoria Hanley once again led all Dolphins in scoring, putting up a 21 points, including knocking down five of seven free throws. The Yonkers, New York native also added four rebounds, an assist and a steal to the stat line. Junior
Amber Been impressed on the boards, as the 5'8" guard collected a team and season-high 13 rebounds to go along with 12 points.
Dez Brown and
Melanieann Broderick combined for 15 rebounds of their own while
