Bronxville, NY - The Dolphins finally returned to action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to nearby Sarah Lawrence College to take on the Gryphons in a Skyline Conference matchup. CMSV emerged victorious over Sarah Lawrence, winning by the score of 66-33.
This was the first time CMSV took the court in 2022, with their last contest taking place nearly one month ago agains the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The Dolphins improved to 6-3 on the year and now sit over .500 (4-3) in conference play.
The Dolphins' urgency to get back on the court was apparent in the early going, as they jumped out to an impressive 18-6 lead over the first 10 minutes of play. Their success continued into the second quarter, with CMSV leading 26-14 going into halftime.
As the whole, the Dolphins shot 53% from the floor in the first quarter while generating 10 Gryphons turnovers.
Despite Sarah Lawrence's efforts, the Dolphins continued their torrid offensive pace, resulting in the win. CMSV dominated the Gryphons in nearly all major statistical categories, including rebounds (50-29), steals (14-7) and bench points (9-0), among others.
Head coach Phil Stern received contributions from all over his roster. Junior Amber Been continued her strong first season for CMSV, as she paced the team in points (19) while adding eight rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal. Senior Victoria Hanley had a strong showing in her own right, recording her first double double of the season with 14 points and 11 boards. Junior Kira Villegas went five of nine from the floor, good for 10 points, while also adding five steals.
The Dolphins gained two transfers in Kayla Hanley (seven points, four rebounds) and Barbara Valentine (four points, six rebounds), both who contributed on Saturday afternoon.
CMSV will now turn their attention to Farmingdale State College, who they'll take on this coming Monday.
