Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins were back at home on Wednesday evening, taking on CCNY in front of another raucus home crowd for a non-conference matchup. CMSV continued their start to the season that has flashed grit and clutch shooting, but ultimately fell to the Beavers by the score of 72-68. The Dolphins dropped under .500 and are now 4-5 thus far, but remain 2-1 against the conference.
The game was as tightly contested as they come. After the first 20 minutes of play, the Dolphins trailed 36-33, while being behind by just one point (36-35) in the second half. It was a true battle, with the largest leading coming at the hands of the Beavers by just seven points, which took place in the first half.
Sophomore
Elijah McKenzie had a true breakout performance on Wednesday, as the second year forward was featured heavily on offense by head coach
James Mooney. The gamble paid off, as the Cliffwood, New Jersey native posted a career-high in both points (19) and rebounds (11), both good for a team-best. Senior
Jeremiah Simmons continued his strong start to the season, adding 11 points while shooting 50% from the floor.
Kelvin Turner-Harris knocked down two big threes in the second half while
Shakirro Samuels impressed with nine points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals in 28 minutes.
Non-conference play will continue throughout the course of December. Next up for the Dolphins will be Connecticut College, where they'll travel this coming Monday.
