Dolphins Bested By Camels In Non-Conference Matchup

Box Score

New London, CT - For the first time in each program's history, the College of Mount Saint Vincent and Connecticut College faced off in a men's basketball matchup, with the Dolphins traveling out of state for a rare Monday night matchup. Despite a tightly contested first half, the Camels proved to be too much for CMSV, winning by the score of 76-58.

The Dolphins are now 4-6 to start the 2021-22 season.

Despite a back and forth affair, the Camels got the best of the Dolphins in the early going, leading by as much as 12 points over the first 10 minutes of action. CMSV then clamped down on the defensive end and saw contributions from all over the roster, as Dorian Robinson, Aaron Darab, Kelvin Turner-Harris and Jack Connolley each knocked down buckets to bring the game within two with less than three minutes in the half. Two Elijah McKenzie free throws and a Dan Porcic three pointer gave the Dolphins their first lead since the early minutes, while a big three from freshman Brian Rawlings put the visitors up by four going into halftime.

As a whole, the Dolphins stingy defense caused seven turnovers for the Camels while also seeing them shoot just 38% from the floor. At the same time, Porcic led the charge with 10 first half points, with the team shooting an impressive 57% from beyond the arc.

Connecticut College came out on fire, opening up the second half with a 11-0 run, a deficit the Dolphins failed to come back from. Every time CMSV would creep back into things, the Camels responded, including four three pointers over the span of five straight made baskets. The struggles on both ends for the Dolphins resulted in their sixth loss of the year.

Porcic recorded his second double-double this season with 16 points and 11 boards. Darab added six points and six assists while Turner-Harris went three of four from the floor, two of which were threes.

James Mooney's squad saw contributions from new faces, too. The tandem of Connolley and Rawlings added 15 total points, with Connolley adding three rebounds and two assists while Rawlings shot 60% from beyond the arc.

The Dolphins will face another tough non-conference foe in their next matchup when Illinois-Wesleyan comes to Riverdale on December 29.
