Newburgh, NY - CMSV's women's volleyball team opened the Skyline Conference Playoffs on the road this season when they traveled to Newburgh on Tuesday evening to take on Mount Saint Mary College. The battle was one for the ages, with each team splitting the first four sets before the Dolphins mounted an impressive come from behind victory in set five to advance to the semifinals.
After losing the first set 25-19, the Dolphins battled back with a 26-24 win in set two. It was then the Knights who were victorious in set three 26-24, while the Dolphins returned fire in set four, winning by nine. After trailing 7-1 and 11-3 in set five, the Dolphins rattled off six straight points to emerge victorious.
The senior trio of
Samantha Schroeder,
Dez Brown and
Lindsay DeBoer dominated on the offensive side of things with 15, 14 and 10 kills, respectfully.
Madison Gale paced all players with an eye-popping 45 assists with her elite setting skills on display.
Isabella Garcia (23 digs) and
Brianna Ayuso (four aces) performed admirably in their first postseason game with the Dolphins and will look to use their first round success as building blocks for the future.
The semifinal will be a familiar one, as the Dolphins will travel to Kings Point on Thursday for a showdown against the United States Merchant Marine Academy. This is the fourth time in as many seasons that the two teams will meet in the Skyline Conference Playoffs.
