Dolphins Clinch Skyline Conference Championship Bid With OT Win Over Yeshiva

Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins are moving on to the Skyline Conference Championship as they defeated the visitors Yeshiva 1-0 in double overtime.

The Dolphins hosted their first playoff game down at Marillac Field since 2017 and the team performance did not disappoint. The game was packed full of action but there were no
goals scored until the second overtime period.

Dolphins stand outs Isaac Tamer and Joel Luna kept their team in the game during the first half. Tamer looked sharp in his tackling and distribution while Luna was a brick wall in the
net for the Dolphins. Yeshiva had most of the chances in the first half as the Dolphins looked sluggish after having a bye in the first round.

In the second half, the Dolphins picked up their intensity instantly. The Dolphins back three consisting of Tamer, Dennis Andino, and Fernando Guzman were solid in limiting Yeshiva's chances in the second half with Luna only having to be called into action a handful of times. The teams were deadlocked at 0-0 entering extra time.

The first half of extra time was cautiously played 10 minutes with both teams not sending too many bodies forward. The second half of extra time was a completely different story as the Dolphins came out flying, creating chances and exploiting the space given by the Maccabees back line.

The breakthrough came with three minutes left in the game. Alejandro Rodriguez put a cross into the box when it struck a defender's arm in an unnatural position. Protests ensued but the penalty kick was given. Freshman Carlos Romero stepped up to the spot and proved to be the coolest man on campus when he slotted the ball into the bottom right corner to send his team into the championship for the first time in program history.

The Dolphins will be back in action Saturday when they take on the winner of Manhattanville and USMMA in the Skyline Conference Championship Check out all the action on CMSVAthletics.com.
