Dolphins Named Skyline Conference Champions For First Time In Program History

Box Score Purchase, NY - The Dolphins entered Saturday's championship game as the number two seed but emerged as the best team in the conference when they defeated Manhattanville on their home turf to bring home the College's first Skyline Conference Championship in the sport of men's soccer. The Dolphins conclude their season with a downright dominant 14-1-2 record and will move onto the Division-III National Championship Tournament.

The game opened fast, as standout freshman Carlos Romero made a slick spin and score off a strong pass from Santiago Ferrer to put the Dolphins ahead within the first five minutes of play. Romero, who will be in the running for the Skyline Conference's Rookie of the Year award, was named the game's Most Outstanding Player after his terrific performance at midfield for CMSV.

From there, the outcome was never in doubt. The Dolphins dominated on the defense end, allowing only four shots to reach goaltender Joel Luna, who turned away every single shot he saw. The back end of Fernando Guzman, Isaac Tamer and Dennis Andino did a fantastic job of forming a brick wall near the box while Romero, Luciano Cirelli and Matthew Babcock kept the Valiants quiet at the middle of the field.

Junior captain Ian Lamas added another impressive goal for good measure, bringing the Dolphins' lead to two, where the score stayed until the final buzzer.

Tommy Mattera's Dolphins exceeded expectations and took the conference by complete surprise. Their dominance throughout the regular season and into the postseason makes this soccer team one of the best single season athletic teams in program history.

While celebrations will continue through the weekend, Monday will decide the team's next stop on their road to glory. The NCAA's selection show will take place at 1:30 PM this coming Monday.
