Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins secured the win today by six goals against Old Westbury down at Marillac Field. The ladies put in a strong performance and will look to ride this momentum into the remaining Skyline matches.
The Dolphins came to dominate, possessing the ball well in the first half. The Dolphins won a penalty eight minutes into the game and the kick was slotted in by junior
Emily McCarthy. In the 10th minute, freshman
Alicia Rodriguez slotted one in from outside of the box to double the Dolphins' lead, with the goal being assisted by McCarthy. In the 27th minute, McCarthy doubled her tally on the day with a slick passing move finished off by a strike into the bottom corner, which was assisted by
Riley Leedholm, her first assist of the season. In the 31st minute,
Lilli Marin added her first goal of the season assisted off a pass from
Naomi Juvera.
Cristina Britton added the Dolphins fifth goal in the 43rd minute when Leedholm slotted in Britton to dribble past the keeper and finish into the open net. In the closing seconds of the half, freshman
Amanda Cotroneo produced a moment of
magic, taking the ball off of a defender and curling an effort into the side of the net. The Dolphins entered halftime up 6-0.
The Dolphins continued their pressure in the second half but were not able to find the back of the net. The team looked like a cohesive unit out there and performed very well. Coach
Stuart Dick Praised his team after the game."The first half was excellent, very very good team performance, we did everything we spoke about prior to the match. Probably could have had a couple of more [goals] a couple were cleared off the line. The performance was very good even if you take away the goals, I thought the performance was excellent."
The Dolphins will be back in action this coming Wednesday as visitors Maritime travel to Marillac Field in a highly anticipated matchup. Check out all the action on CMSVAthletics.com or on Instagram and Twitter @CMSVAthletics.
