Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins impressed in a 4-1 victory over Old Westbury at Marillac field on Wednesday afternoon. The College of Mount Saint Vincent improves to (6-1-2, 4-1-1) after yet another conference win. After a switch in formation, the Dolphins looked even stronger and their play reflected the score line.
The Dolphins started off sluggish in the first half, accumulating three yellow cards within the first 20 minutes of the game. The Dolphins were awoken by an Old Westbury goal that was called off due to an offside. The Dolphins opened the scoring in the 39th minute, courtesy of senior midfielder
Matthew Babcock when his effort from 25 yards deflected into the net off of the top left post. The goal was assisted by
Lizardo Tamaura, tallying his first assist of the season.
The Dolphins were not content with their one goal lead going into the half. With one minute left in the first half, junior standout
Ian Lamas produced a moment of magic, placing his freekick into the bottom corner from 30 yards out. The first half ended 2-0 and the Dolphins were not finished with business
The Dolphins came out looking to finish off the game in the second half. The only negative that comes with chasing the game is leaving the defense uncovered, Old Westbury took advantage of this and cut the Dolphins lead to 2-1 in the 49th minute. The Dolphins were not discouraged by this and continued to dominate the game. In the 87th minute,
Lukas Cunha slotted in
Ian Lamas who scored with another outside of the box effort to score his team leading sixth goal of the season. The Dolphins were not finished there as
Carlos Romero whipped in a stunning cross to pick out a wide open
Alejandro Rodriguez, who steered his header into the bottom corner.
The Dolphins will be in action again on Saturday, October 9, when they visit St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn. Checkout all your CMSV athletics needs @CMSVAthletics.com or on instagram and Twitter @CMSVAthletics.
