Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins kept their winning streak alive this afternoon as they defeated St. Joe's Long Island4-1 down at Marillac Field.
Tommy Mattera's men improved to 5-1 on home field and 10-1-2 overall.
The Dolphins came out strong, looking to keep their strong home record going. The game mirrored a chess match within the opening minutes, with both teams playing cautiously and not
committing too many bodies forward. This all changed in the 14th minute when
Antonio Padilla put in the rebound of
Ian Lamas' effort that hit the post. Padilla was not satisfied and scored again in the 20th minute. Lamas put in a beautiful ball into the box off of a set piece where
Fernando Guzman made a run into the back post to nod the ball back down to Padilla to finish the chance.
The next goal came in the 40th minute when substitute
Juan Cardenas slotted in a deflected shot from
Tyrone Malango to make the score 3-0. The fourth goal came in the closing seconds of the half when another deflected shot from Malango fell to
Alejandro Rodriguez to finish from the top of the box. The Dolphins would go into the half up by four and look to cruise out the rest of the game.
The Dolphins played a good second half keeping their shape and system in check. St Joes scored a consolation goal in the 56th minute, but the Dolphins kept up the pressure and sealed the win. Dolphins' center back pairing of Guzman and
Isaac Tamer shined and took control of the game. Both of the Dolphins' keepers,
Joel Luna and
Erick Pantoja, looked spectacular in the win.
The Dolphins will be back in action on October 23 when they visit Sarah Lawrence and look to continue their five game win streak. Check out all the action on our website and social media.
