Riverdale, NY - CMSV's women's volleyball team returned to the Peter Jay Sharp Center in front of a raucus crowd on Thursday evening, taking on Skyline Conference rival Manhattanville College in a potential playoff matchup. Despite the fantastic effort from the home team, the Valiants escaped Riverdale with a 3-2 five set victory. The Dolphins now sit at 3-4 against conference competition with an overall record of 10-10.
The Dolphins were in cruise control as they emerged victorious in the first two sets. But a strong comeback in set three and a dominant 25-7 win in set four led to the fifth set showdown.
Despite the loss, there was a ton of good on the Dolphins' end. Top players
Rianna Rivera (nine kills, eight blocks),
Madison Gale (37 assists),
Dez Brown (12 kills) and
Samantha Schroeder (10 kills) each put together fantastic individual performances for head coach
Courtney Bernstein. CMSV also received contributions from their young talent, with
Isabella Garcia,
Elizabeth Flores,
Brianna Ayuso and
Melanieann Broderick each contributing in the team's strong performance.
With this loss behind the team, the Dolphins now must turn their attention to the rest of their schedule as they fight for a playoff birth. CMSV has the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons next, and will look to emerge victorious in the local battle on Monday.
