Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's athletic department is pleased to announce the hiring of
Miguel Justiniano as the newest head coach of the softball program. The agreement was made official on Thursday morning.
"Miguel arrives at CMSV at the perfect time for the young ladies in our softball program," said
Phil Stern, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "He has experience at several levels of college softball and has made a major impact at each stop. We are excited to welcome 'Coach Who' home."
"I want to thank Coach Stern for giving me an opportunity to interview, and also thank the search committee and the softball captains for trusting me and giving me a blessing to become the head softball coach," Coach Justiniano stated. "I was raised in The Bronx and I am thankful for the opportunity."
Coach Justiniano will take over a CMSV softball program that sported a 10-6 conference record in 2019, resulting in the Dolphins' sixth straight appearance in the Skyline Conference Softball Championships. Despite a new coach at the helm, the department's high expectations for the team remain.
Before coming to Riverdale, Coach Justiniano served as the head coach at Fayetteville Technical Community College, leading the team since its inaugural season in 2018. Before Coach Justiniano's stint at FTCC, he was on the coaching staff at Fayetteville State University, where he helped lead the team to a 2009 CIAA Championship appearance. In 2006, Coach Justiniano was on the Methodist University coaching staff, aiding the program to ranking seventh in the nation.
Coach Justiniano was born in Puerto Rico and raised in the Bronx, New York and played professional baseball in Guam while serving in the Marines. Coach Justiniano also has military service with the Air Force and National Guard. Coach Justiniano earned his bachelor's degree at Campbell University and received his master's degree from the American Military University.
Justiniano and his wife, Edna, have three children: Sheena, Jonathan and Michael.
Coach Justiniano is ready to take on the role and all the challenges that come with it.
"My job is to build a family in our softball program," said Coach Justiniano. "Second, to assure all of our student-athletes graduate on time. Third, to compete for a conference and national championship every single year."
