Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dolphins Dominate Maccabees, Cruise To Second Straight Win

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team was back in the Peter Jay Sharp Center for more Skyline Conference action, this time taking on Yeshiva University. The Dolphins were looking to make it two wins in a row after defeating Sarah Lawrence College this past Wednesday.

The Dolphins opened the first quarter with a tough defensive mindset, as they forced the Maccabees to turn the ball over seven times. At the same time, CMSV's offense found their groove as they shot 43% from the floor including going two of six from deep.

The theme of dominant defense continued throughout the duration of the second quarter. The Dolphins allowed Yeshiva to make just one basket in nine tries, resulting in an 11% shooting percentage. CMSV also kept up their pace on offense as they more than doubled their points over the final 10 minutes before halftime, with the score being 38-14 as teams went into their locker rooms.

Junior Aria Rheams continued her strong season in the first half, going three of seven from the floor while knocking down all four of her free throw attempts, good for 10 points. She also added 11 rebounds and six steals. Freshman Kira Villegas added eight points while DarNeisha Brice came off the bench provided seven of her own. Victoria Hanley grabbed six boards.

The Dolphins continued their fantastic play on both sides of the ball to finish the game with their ninth conference win of the season. Over the course of the second half, CMSV took control on both sides of the floor to win by the score 78-38.

Both Villegas and Rheams tied for a game-high 12 points. Catherine Amodio was a spark off the bench with 10 points and seven rebounds. Leah Pinili also had a strong performance with seven points and five assists while Mellssa Hudson had a season-high nine points.

The Dolphins are now slated as the fifth seed if playoffs started tomorrow but will have the opportunity to climb up the standings even further. Their next game will be played against St. Joseph's College Long Island on our home floor.
