Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team was looking to extend their winning streak to three when they played host to St. Joseph's College-Long Island on Tuesday evening. The Dolphins, who entered play with a 9-7 Skyline Conference record, hoped to climb the standings at the conclusion of the contest.
The first quarter saw the Dolphins carry their tremendous play over from their matchup against Yeshiva University two days ago. As a whole, CMSV went on an impressive 19-0 run that saw Kira Villegas, Victoria Hanley, Aria Rheams and Gabriela Goldman score at least one basket each.
The Dolphins dominated in nearly every facet of the game, including field goal percentage, rebounds, asssists, forced turnovers, steals, points in the paint and second chance points, among others. The Golden Eagles knocked down their second bucket of the game at the 2:04 mark, further proving the Dolphins' prowess in the matchup.
The team's success on both ends of the floor continued into the second quarter. Head Coach Phil Stern kept his foot on the pedal and saw his players score an additional 15 points on six of 15 shooting while forcing 15 turnovers, making it a 45-16 game at the half.
Transfer senior DarNeisha Brice came off the pine and had a team-high 13 first half points. Goldman's 80% three point shooting percentage earned her 12 points of her own while Villegas added seven to the stat sheet. Rheams led the way with six boards while Hanley added five points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal.
The second half was, once again, all CMSV. The Dolphins knocked down more than half of their field goal attempts (52%) over the final 20 minutes of play to the tune of 37 points. The impressive evening of basketball resulted in a 78-34 win for the Dolphins.
Villegas ended her game with 15 points on an efficient six of 10 shooting. Rheams notched yet another double double with 13 points and 17 rebounds while Hanley wasn't far behind with nine points, 10 boards and five assists. Brice finished with a game-high 19 points off the bench.
The Dolphins will look to continue their winning ways once again, but this time on the road. They head to Long Island to take on Old Westbury this Saturday at 2:00 PM.
