Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team was back in Skyline Conference action on Tuesday evening, playing host to the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons. The Dolphins, who entered tonight with an even 7-7 conference record, were looking to get back into the win column and halt their current two game losing streak.
CMSV opened the first quarter excelling on both ends of the floor, as they didn't allow a basket from the Gryphons until the three minute mark while forcing eight turnovers. The Dolphins' offense was equally as effective, as they scored 12 total points, including going 80% from the charity stripe, while dishing out three assists.
The second quarter saw both the Dolphins and Gryphons pick up their games on offense, as they shot 63% and 53% from the floor, respectively. CMSV once again topped Sarah Lawrence in all major statistical categories, including rebounds (20-10), three point percentage (50%-29%), assists (8-5) and bench points (15-0), among others. The Dolphins' efforts helped them maintain a 38-24.
Junior Aria Rheams was a force in the first half, scoring 15 points five of six from the floor and five of six from the free throw line. DarNeisha Brice added eight points of her own off the bench while Rheams, Kira Villegas and Victoria Hanley had two assists each. Villegas and Gabriela Goldman paced the team with three rebounds apiece.
CMSV separated themselves from the competition in a major way after halftime. The third quarter saw the Dolphins outscore the Gryphons 30-12, including going on 21-0 run over a five minute span. That theme continued into the fourth, with the Dolphins ran away with things by the score of 82-52.
Rheams led the way for the Dolphins with 25 points on an efficient eight for 10 from the floor. Brice was the other Dolphin to finish in double digits with 10. Villegas and Hanley scored eight points apiece while Isabella Wisler came off the bench and provided seven points and five boards.
CMSV will now turn their attention to Yeshiva University, who they take on in Riverdale this coming Sunday at 6:00 PM.
