Box Score Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's volleyball team took the Peter Jay Sharp Center for the first time in 2020, taking on non-conference foe City College of New York. The Dolphins, who entered the game with an 0-5 record, were looking to capture their first win of the season.
The first set saw CMSV trail 14-4 in the early going. The Dolphins then made an impressive comeback attempt, as they scored four straight points to make it a 14-9 set. The team's play was highlighted an ace by freshman Felix Paulino and a big time block by classmates Terence Strehle and Samuel Martinez. From there, the Beavers went on their own run, closing out the first set by the score of 25-13.
Things were close to start the second set, with the Dolphins keeping pace with the Beavers up until the nine point mark. After CCNY jumped out to a six point lead (12-6), CMSV began to mount a comeback. A Padelis Astrinidis ace was followed up with a kill from Christian Santiago, bringing the score to 14-11. The Dolphins continued to fight, as they went on another 4-0 run to make it 21-17. That was followed up by a monster kill by Martinez, making it a three point set. Unfortunately for CMSV, their comeback attempt fell short, losing the second set 25-19.
The third and final set followed a familiar theme of the first two. The Dolphins started strong, scoring three points before the Beavers could tie things up. Trailing 8-7, Santiago provided two consecutive points on his own, first from a kill and then a block, making it 9-8 CMSV. Despite their best efforts, the Dolphins attempt to take the third set fell short.
The Dolphins will now turn their attention to Wilkes University and The Sage Colleges, who they'll face on the road in a tri-match this coming Saturday.
