Quincy, MA - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's volleyball team returned to action this weekend when they hit the road to Massachusetts. The Dolphins participated in a tri-match hosted by Eastern Nazarene College, with Northern Vermont-Johnson also participating in the action. Unfortunately for CMSV, they left the gym winless, losing to Eastern Nazarene 3-0 while dropping three of four sets to Northern Vermont-Johnson.
The Dolphins took on the Badgers in the first match of the afternoon, where they took the first set 25-23 then dropped the following three (25-21, 25-19, 25-9). The freshmen duo of
Terence Strehle and
Samuel Martinez impressed with a combined nine kills over the course of four sets. Junior standout
Jose Estrella wasn't far behind with four of his own while also contributing four aces and two blocks.
Padelis Astrinidis had a strong outing, leading the team in both assists (11) and blocks (2). Strehle also paced the team in the digs category with 11, while
Jeremy Gonzalez had eight and
Felix Paulino registered four.
In the second of two games, the Dolphins dropped three straight sets to the Lions of Eastern Nazarene 25-17, 25-10, 25-13. It was once again Strehle who led the way in the kills department for his team with five. Astrinidis had a team-high nine assists while Gonzalez led the team with six digs. Estrella added three kills and two blocks while
Danylo Szkafarowsky had the Dolphins' only ace of the match.
The Dolphins will look to capture their first win of the season during their home opener against the City College of New York this coming Tuesday. The match is set to begin at 7 PM.
